As part of their studies of competing demands in river basins, the Terminale Geography students spent a day at the Durance River in the Luberon. Through the collection of primary data, notably water samples, the students investigated the effects of surrounding socio-economic activities on the river.
The results showed a river which, due to a major reduction in discharge, has lost its ability to flush away pollutants and hence suffer from eutrophication. The future use of this river lies in question and unless more sustainable practices are adopted, we may not continue to benefit from the waters of the Durance River.

IBS is one of ten schools chosen worldwide to participate in the EduCycle Exchange Program. Established by Finnish company Neste, students reflect on ways to reduce their carbon footprints through an educational augmented reality game. The 1ère IB Geography class will be participating in the program as it links well with their studies in climate mitigation and adaptation.
The game is an ‘exchange’ initiative as the students share their ideas on social media with other participating schools. The class will also use the project as part of their CAS work by applying creative techniques to educate students in the lower school about the Paris Climate Agreement and how individuals can make a difference with even the smallest life changes.

Moving the Art Department has been a real challenge. After spending two weeks sorting, preparing, protecting and packaging all the material needed for our artistic production, we finally settled in our new rooms: More space, comfort and hopefully, more creativity. Our students were all enthusiastic about the environment change and very delighted about their new working conditions. We are sure that the year 2017-2018 will be a great year with a lot of creativity!
New premises but also new projects: First a cultural visit with our IB students in St Paul de Vence to study the artistic presentation of various works at the Maeght Foundation, then a visit of several artist workshops located in the area. On the theme « artist workshops » we are going to organize a series of excursions for the younger students including a visit to the workshop of Cézanne in Aix-en-Provence, as well as workshops of contemporary artists. Another project involves drawing observation sessions on the “painter’s field” in Aix.
This year we will be able to organize our annual IB exhibition in March 2018 at our new campus ! Our excellent new on-site exhibition conditions will allow all young IBS artists to admire and be inspired by the work of our very talented IB Visual Arts students.
Finally, after last year’s success, we have the intention to further expand the scope of our annual “Day of Art”, announcing the second edition which will be held in May 2018. That day, thanks to the new spaces that are available at IBS, we hope to turn the entire school into a studio full of young artists!

This year at IBS, we really had two «back to school » days. The first one, of course, in September, and then a historic one after the October holidays – the day we moved into our new IBS Campus. After more than a decade of legal and administrative battles, several modifications of our building plans due to new security laws, and lots of « red tape », I am pleased to say that we are officially installed in our new buildings, just in time for the winter season.
Our new 7000 m2 campus includes an academic and administrative building, 400-seat aphitheatre and a multi-sports complex. This new campus will provide us with the most modern facilities and learning environment for our students.
The challenge in not over though as we will be starting construction now on the outdoor sports field, the heated swimming pool and not to mention the refurbishing of the cafeteria and the new primary school building.
I would like to take this opportunity again to thank all of you for your patience and understanding during this past year of construction and transition. Hopefully, you have had a chance to visit our new campus. If not, please do not hesitate to contact us so we can organise a private tour for you.
And above all, we hope that our students are happy in their new school and that the new school environment will provide additional motivation for them to concentrate on their studies and succeed, both academically and socially.
