IBS of Provence and our Russian-speaking students celebrated Russian Day at IBS on January 14th. Why the 14th of January?
Even though the Gregorian calendar is the official calendar in Russia, Russians also celebrate the ‘old New Year’s’ which is on this day. It is also celebrated in Belorussia, Ukraine, Serbia, Montanegro and certain regions of Switzerland.
Where does this tradition come from? The name speaks for itself. This celebration is linked to the Julien Calendar which was in effect in Russia up until 1918.
Mme Sharipova and her students decorated the school and also held a workshop to prepare the traditional Russian salad ‘Oliver’.
Thank you to all who organised this succesful event!
