On Monday May 19th, the IB Theatre class had the exceptional opportunity to work with Eva Doumbia, Director of La Part du Pauvre, an international theatre company. The company rehearsed and read the play “Le Grand Écart” written by Dieudonné Niangouna, a Congolese playwright whose work has been featured at the Festival of Avignon and at the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier at a festival of African Writers. IBS, a member of Mécènes du Sud, (an organization which sponsors various artistic undertakings each year), was pleased to host the company before their trip to Brazzaville and Bomako. Although “Le Grand Écart” is completely in French, the students had the chance to ask questions about rehearsal techniques and to converse with the director concerning the play’s existential subject matter.
